GREEN INTERIOR DESIGN - DECLUTTER YOUR HOME-KEEP PROCESS

KEEP WHAT YOU LIKE AND USE:

To get all the advantages of a green interior design you must start by the ‘’declutter your home-keep process’’ first. Identify a box or basket with a ‘’KEEP’’ tag.

These KEEP items should be those things you like and use. Remember that those things you use once a year should not be found in this box.

It may be that there are certain items you don’t want to part with even though you seldom use them. Put these in a dated, well-labeled box which you can return to later. This box can be stored behind the articles you use often.

If however, you are undecided about keeping or getting rid of an article, ask yourself the following questions:

1. How many times have I used this item within the past year?

2. Does someone else in the house use this and how often?

3. Is it still useable, broken, or repairable?

4. Why am I hesitant to let it go?

5. Is the object too costly to let it go?

6. Does it have sentimental value?

7. Will it, depending on the circumstances, be used in a few years?

You can ask a family member or friend to help you with the ‘’declutter your home-keep process if you find it too difficult to do it by yourself.

Declutter your Closet - keep process:

As you go through your closet when the seasons change, you should keep those things you have worn regularly or occasionally within the past two years.

If you buy a new piece of clothing, you should always get rid of one to make room for it; this is a rule that will prevent you from returning to clutter.

Those clothes you are keeping should be stored by category and color. For example, put short-sleeved black sweaters together. This way, you can see at a glance what you already have before going to buy another piece of clothing.

If you have lots of clothes and the necessary space to store them, prepare cards with separators to show lists of clothes in each category.

It doesn’t matter whether you are working in the kitchen, basement or garage, the same philosophy towards green interior design should be used. You will see your home slowly clear up to make room for organized spaces.

Occasionally, you will discover something that makes it possible for you to reuse some objects. During the renovation of my bathroom, I recycled things such as the mirror, wood moldings and ceramics by giving them a second life.
